Site Preparation and Grading
Site Preparation and Grading in Bentonville
Before a footing gets poured or a slab gets set, the ground has to be right. Michaelburritt strips topsoil, moves cut and fill, and grades rough to finish so a raw Bentonville parcel matches the engineer’s grading plan. We set pad elevations, shape drainage slopes away from the building, and compact the subgrade to the density the plan specifies, using laser and GPS grade control to hold the line.
Why Grading Matters
A pad that is not compacted settles, and a lot that does not slope right sends water toward the foundation. Getting the grade correct the first time is cheaper than fixing a wet basement later. Our operators have shaped enough lots off Walton Boulevard to know how soil behaves once the rain comes, and they build in the fall of grade that keeps a site dry.
Our Process
We start with an 811 utility locate, then strip and stockpile topsoil for reuse. We balance cut and fill across the site, place any imported structural fill in controlled lifts, and compact to 95 percent of maximum dry density. A finish pass sets the final surface tight to the pad elevation, tested with a density gauge where the plan calls for it.
